Well done to all of our students who participated in the tournament on the weekend. We had some fantastic results with Saffron Woods taking out second place in the patterns division and Jamie Stott also taking second place in her age group...... well done girls!
Congratulation to Keeley Souris on winning second place after some hard fought bouts in sparring against women twice her age!
Well done Bodie Kirkham and Daniel Moland in your bouts. You both had tough fights and it always hard when changing styles but you fought well and I hope we see you re-enter in three months time.
Special mention to James Fairclough on an amazing performance in sparring. We can definately see huge potential in not only your fighting career but also becoming an outstanding blackbelt and instructor one day.
Unfortunatly Chris Capes had a tough fight which had to be stopped due to excessive contact. It is all too common when two tough fighters meet. Chris has been with me for many years and now as he enters into young adulthood the temptation towards full contact bouts is growing. But I know Chris will learn from his bout and return well prepared for next time.
Well done to Adam Whyatt and Josh Moore for running a fantastic tournament, we have heard nothing but good comments about how well run the event was. We look forward to the next one!

Come down to the Breakwater on Friday 9th April for a JMA social gathering. 7:30pm onwards - come for food or just to get to know the everyone on the JMA team! Sorry 18+ event only.....Can't wait to see you all there!!!!
At JMA we are always looking for new ways to help the environment. Part of our kids traditional syllabus requires them to find ways to help their environment so that they can grade to the next level. We want to teach them the importance of leadership and how becoming a black belt isn't all about learning taekwondo - its about being a black belt in all areas of your life - including looking after your environment.
Its not just our kids that need to clean up the environment, we can all try to make a difference! Below is some important information from Box and Burner Phoebe Browning on how muchwe can all make changes -
Everyone knows that rising CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions are a cause for concern in the environment today.
An increased concentration of CO2 from human based sources, as well as other "greenhouse" gases, is a major contributor to global warming.
But did you know:
- watching TV on your flatscreen or plasma for 25 hours a week emits 276Kg of CO2 into the atmosphere per year
- boiling a kettle for about 5 hours per week emits a massive 794Kg of CO2 into the atmosphere per year
...and even leaving lights (regular, not halogen) on around the house, for around 24 hours per week, emits a massive 99Kg of CO2 into the atmosphere per year (PER LIGHTGLOBE!)
So the next time you watch TV or have the lights on, turn them off when you leave the room to do something else and then put them back on when you're in the room!
It's not just vehicles and industry that are slowly heating our poor planet!
We have launched JMA pages - our very own answer to the yellow pages!! The idea is to provide a free platform for our members to help each others businesses grow! Instead of looking in the yellow pages or googling for a beautician or electrician why not visit JMA pages first and keep it in the JMA family!
If you are a JMA member and run your own business send us your logo and contact details to email@example.com and we'll add it to the site. All we ask for in return is if you have a website to put a link to our website on it. If you don't then perhaps put some flyers at your business to help spread the JMA message!
Our members mean everything to us and you are what makes everything we do possible. Which is why we want to give back to you by providing this service free of charge. Help us help you!!!!!
This has been my favorite week so far at JMA! Our Club has now grown to 150 members and the vibe on the floor is electric. Our students are smiling and Sam and I couldn’t be happier with the results we are getting from all the team. I see potential instructors in our midst in both kids and adults programs.
Our Box and Burn members have blown me away with all their hard work and commitment. Glen McIntyre with 20 Kilo’s lost, Callan Tierney with 10 kilo’s lost and Jodie Tierney with an undisclosed amount to name a few.
We are extremely lucky to be surrounded by such dedicated and determined students, you are all the heart beat of our Club and Sam and I are privileged to have you as our students.
Keep up the hard work we are having a lot of fun!!
