This year at JMA we are hoping to encourage the wonderful JMA community charitable spirit! With that in mind we've decided to partner with the WA Police charity, Constable Care and their Comfort Pack Program.
'The program aims to supply front line emergency service workers with care packs to give to children who are being temporarily relocated from their homes due to accident, emergency or as a result of crime. The backpacks are age and gender appropriate and contain necessities such as pyjamas, underwear, toothbrush and paste, soap, shampoo and conditioner, hair brush, story book, teddy bear, etc.'
Instead of students completing their 5 Leadership Tasks on their grading form we will be asking that everyone assembles a Comfort Pack for children in need. - You can opt out of this and do the normal 5 tasks - The age range is 0-16 so ideally it would be great if students assemble a pack for another child their age but you can choose. You do not need to fill the back pack with all the items, just what you can afford to purchase or even better donate! The idea is to help with Comfort Pack program but also to encourage our students to think about others and how great they will feel knowing they have helped someone else in need.
We are encouraging everyone to participate from all programs including Little Tigers and the adult classes - TKD and Box and Burn - you can also spread the word and ask family and friends if they want to be involved too!
We will be collecting the donations at the club during March leading up to the April grading. Thank you all in advance for your support. We're really excited for this project! You can read more about the program below!
To obtain her red belt three at JMA Sophia Chila must now take on a leadership role. This is an advanced level at our school therefore a higher level of commitment and maturity is required.
Her task is to first recruit a minimum of ten friends and family members from school or otherwise and manage that team to provide a service that can benefit the community. The intention here is to teach the student the importance of team work and leadership. This level shows the power of many hands and the good feeling that comes from being part of a group working together to achieve a common goal.
Sophia has chosen to start the "Australian Earth Kids”Club. Below is some information about the Club.
"As part of joining my club kids will also become members of a non-profit organization known as Kids for Saving Earth which was started by an 11 year old boy who was dying of cancer. His name was Clinton and he had a dream of creating a healthy planet. His mum & dad now carry on the club that he started when he developed a passion about environmental issues & wanted to raise awareness & take action on all the neglect we were showing towards our animals & plants, skies & oceans.
The mission of Kids for Saving Earth is to educate, inspire, and empower children to protect the Earth's environment. As a member of this club, we will meet together every 6-8 weeks (or more often if we want to !!) to discuss and act upon environmental issues that we can really do something about! We can access educational materials from KSE & many other Australian resources & work to protect our planet in many different ways.
In our first meeting we learned how to create a small natural habitat at home; next meeting we are making bird feeders and soon we will have a guest speaker to talk about solar power & it’s benefits. There is so much to learn about and one thing I have discovered is that every person CAN make a difference !!
If any members of JMA are interested in my club or topics I am happy to provide information to them. Thankyou for giving me this opportunity to think about ways in which I can make the world a better place."
Well done Sophia, this is an inspiring way to complete your leadership task and a great way to help teach others about the environment.

Well done and Thank You to Jarn, Jasmir and Symba for showing their initiative and purchasing some plants for the JMA gym. This was part of their grading syllabus to show understanding and care for the environment. They purchased the plants with their own saved up money and have certainly helped make our envirnoment more green.
Thank you very much for choosing to purchase the plants for the Club and members to enjoy - not only is this showing your care for the environment but you are showing kindness to others as well!
Inspiring and dedicated work! Well done!
