JMA would like to officially welcome our Saturday morning adults taekwondo instructor Colin Niland. Mr Niland brings a wealth of knowledge to the Club with an extensive background in Aikido, Judo, Karate and Taekwondo. Our Saturday morning class 9am-10am has been running for awhile now and his energy and enthusiasm has rubbed off on us all. We would like to thank Mr Niland for his involvement with JMA and his passion for martial arts!
To obtain her red belt three at JMA Sophia Chila must now take on a leadership role. This is an advanced level at our school therefore a higher level of commitment and maturity is required.
Her task is to first recruit a minimum of ten friends and family members from school or otherwise and manage that team to provide a service that can benefit the community. The intention here is to teach the student the importance of team work and leadership. This level shows the power of many hands and the good feeling that comes from being part of a group working together to achieve a common goal.
Sophia has chosen to start the "Australian Earth Kids”Club. Below is some information about the Club.
"As part of joining my club kids will also become members of a non-profit organization known as Kids for Saving Earth which was started by an 11 year old boy who was dying of cancer. His name was Clinton and he had a dream of creating a healthy planet. His mum & dad now carry on the club that he started when he developed a passion about environmental issues & wanted to raise awareness & take action on all the neglect we were showing towards our animals & plants, skies & oceans.
The mission of Kids for Saving Earth is to educate, inspire, and empower children to protect the Earth's environment. As a member of this club, we will meet together every 6-8 weeks (or more often if we want to !!) to discuss and act upon environmental issues that we can really do something about! We can access educational materials from KSE & many other Australian resources & work to protect our planet in many different ways.
In our first meeting we learned how to create a small natural habitat at home; next meeting we are making bird feeders and soon we will have a guest speaker to talk about solar power & it’s benefits. There is so much to learn about and one thing I have discovered is that every person CAN make a difference !!
If any members of JMA are interested in my club or topics I am happy to provide information to them. Thankyou for giving me this opportunity to think about ways in which I can make the world a better place."
Well done Sophia, this is an inspiring way to complete your leadership task and a great way to help teach others about the environment.

About Fabio Andrade
I started training my Jiu Jitsu in Brazil at the age 8 years with the Master Ralph Gracie. After about 6 years I was graded up to Blue Belt. After Master Ralph moved to the USA I began training under Master Royler Gracie and in about 4 years became a Purple Belt 4 degrees. As a Purple Belt I decided to teach and live Jiu Jitsu and to supplement my knowledge I was studying at the Gama Filho University in physical education. It was there that I met the teachers and Master Julio Cesar Pereira and Professor Marcus Bello who were creating the UGF team, today known as the GFTeam one of the largest teams of Jiu Jitsu in the world.
It was with the GFTeam that I won and received from the Masters Julio Cesar and Marcus Bello the long awaited Black Belt in 1999. After receiving my Black Belt I travelled teaching Jiu Jitsu in Boston, USA until 2001, later returning home to Brazil to continue my education in Jiu Jitsu. Now with much knowledge under my belt in 2009 I decided to move to Australia to teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Perth.
3rd degree Black Belt in Jiu Jitsu: registered by the Confederation of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation.
Brown Belt in Judo: UGF formed by the Master Andre Silva
Black Belt in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA/Submission) under Master Huanderson Pavao

We have had an overwelming response in JMA's first two months and it's all thanks to you, our members.....
You have been spreading the world and as a result our Little Tigers programs is now big enough to split the age groups so as of the 4th of January 2010 the 3 and 4 year olds will train from 3:30pm - 4:00pm and the 5 and 6 year olds will train from 4:00pm - 4:30pm.
Saturdays will start at 10:00am for the 3's and 4's and 10am for the 5's and 6's.
It has been a great couple of months and we look forward to a great start to 2010!!!
Merry Christmas Everybody................. Keep up the good work!
Our Little Tigers program is going great!
With eight tigers training hard JMA's future is looking bright indeed. What a great feeling it is to have our future champions and instructors training with us from such a young age!
Don't forget Mum's and Dad's it's only with your support and encouragement that our little tigers keep motivated. Refer back to our sessions, keep the instructors words fresh in their minds and help us guide them to their black belts and beyond.
A parents support is essential. My parents never missed a grading or tournament and are the reason my training became my passion and my career! Show your Tigers how happy you are to see them training hard and they will repay you with all their effort and more.
