Congratulations Justin Clark!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What an amazing feeling it was for Sam and I to see Justin perform so well at his Little Tigers Black belt grading in July.
Justin, to see you grow from the shy little boy that could barely say hello to the talented, confident and outgoing Little Black Belt you are today has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my teaching life.
Well done Justin we are all very proud of you.

JMA welcomes Brazilian Luiz Fabio Andrade as our specialist Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor at the Club.
Master Andrade is one of the highest ranked Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructors in Australia, a third degree black belt in BJJ, black belt in submission Mixed Martial Arts and brown belt in Judo.
Trained under both Ralf and Royler Gracie he is a member of the Grappling Fight Team, recognised as one of the biggest BJJ organisations in the world. He has won numerous Brazilian and international BJJ awards including the 1994 BJJ National Championship and finished 6th in the 2001 World BJJ Championship. Sensei Fabio now brings his wealth of knowledge to Perth.
About Fabio Andrade
I started training my Jiu Jitsu in Brazil at the age 8 years with the Master Ralph Gracie. After about 6 years I was graded up to Blue Belt. After Master Ralph moved to the USA I began training under Master Royler Gracie and in about 4 years became a Purple Belt 4 degrees. As a Purple Belt I decided to teach and live Jiu Jitsu and to supplement my knowledge I was studying at the Gama Filho University in physical education. It was there that I met the teachers and Master Julio Cesar Pereira and Professor Marcus Bello who were creating the UGF team, today known as the GFTeam one of the largest teams of Jiu Jitsu in the world.
It was with the GFTeam that I won and received from the Masters Julio Cesar and Marcus Bello the long awaited Black Belt in 1999. After receiving my Black Belt I travelled teaching Jiu Jitsu in Boston, USA until 2001, later returning home to Brazil to continue my education in Jiu Jitsu. Now with much knowledge under my belt in 2009 I decided to move to Australia to teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Perth.
3rd degree Black Belt in Jiu Jitsu: registered by the Confederation of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation.
Brown Belt in Judo: UGF formed by the Master Andre Silva
Black Belt in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA/Submission) under Master Huanderson Pavao
Most important titles in Jiu Jitsu:
Congratulations to Martin Quinlan, Torin Burton and Ron Shears for a terrific effort at your Dan gradings at Premier Martial Arts on the weekend.
A special mention to Ron Shears for an amazing effort, you inspire us all and show what a true Martial spirit is all about!
Dr Magda Lipnika currently training in our kickboxing program gives JMA some advice on spinal care for Chiropractic Care Week.....
Keeping fit and active is an important aspect of a healthy life. Regular exercise will markedly reduce your risk of heart disease as well as improve balance, coordination and flexibility (1). With any sport there is always risk of an injury however keeping your body in top condition will minimise the possibility. Your spine is a key aspect in your health as it is directly linked to your nervous system. Dysfunction in your spine may result in muscle weakness and loss of flexibility, contributing to injuries and affecting your overall health.
As a chiropractor my job is to restore correct spinal function and allow your nervous system to be performing at its best.
Remember prevention is key when it comes to maintaining optimum health. This is the reason why it’s important we monitor your child’s spine and posture as they grow in order to prevent future problems.
If you would like more information please call me or drop by at the Grand Boulevard Chiropractic Clinic.

We have a special guest instructor coming to kickboxing on Saturday 22nd May. Justin Lacey from LivFit has 18 years experience and over 80 fights as an amateur boxer. Australian captain with international fight and training experience in Germany, Russia, Ireland and New Zealand
"My passion is to help others set and achieve new fitness goals so they can start living a healthy and exciting lifestyle."
My personal exercise regime includes; Boxing, Running, Weight Training and Surfing.
Well done to all of our students who participated in the tournament on the weekend. We had some fantastic results with Saffron Woods taking out second place in the patterns division and Jamie Stott also taking second place in her age group...... well done girls!
Congratulation to Keeley Souris on winning second place after some hard fought bouts in sparring against women twice her age!
Well done Bodie Kirkham and Daniel Moland in your bouts. You both had tough fights and it always hard when changing styles but you fought well and I hope we see you re-enter in three months time.
Special mention to James Fairclough on an amazing performance in sparring. We can definately see huge potential in not only your fighting career but also becoming an outstanding blackbelt and instructor one day.
Unfortunatly Chris Capes had a tough fight which had to be stopped due to excessive contact. It is all too common when two tough fighters meet. Chris has been with me for many years and now as he enters into young adulthood the temptation towards full contact bouts is growing. But I know Chris will learn from his bout and return well prepared for next time.
Well done to Adam Whyatt and Josh Moore for running a fantastic tournament, we have heard nothing but good comments about how well run the event was. We look forward to the next one!
See the pic's here
Just a reminder that the Club will be closed on Monday the 1st March for the long weekend. Be safe and enjoy your extra time with family. We will see you all again on Tuesday.....
Well done to all who attended the first official JMA gradings!!
We couldn't be happier with the performance of all the students involved and thank you for all the feedback from parents and spectators a like. We welcome any and all input at JMA and believe it is crucial for your childs developement.
Thankyou to all those who helped make the day possible, Nick Young for our environmentally friendly recycled paper certificates, they came out great!! Thank you to Robert and Glynis Moland and Ken and Pauline Luthwood (mum's and Dad's) for the BBQ and helping the day run smoothly.
Thank you Damien Merrin for overseeing our gradings and for your feedback and guidance throughout the day.
A big thanks to Carla for administrating the day without who's help Sam and I couldn't tie our shoes!!!
and a HUGE thank you to all our students. All your hard work and preparation certainly paid off, you should be proud of yourselves and congratulations on promoting to your next belt!
Well done everybody, great effort all round!!!
Sam and I attended a Robert Drysdale BJJ seminar at The Academy of Mixed Martial Arts on the weekend. Robert is undoubtedly one of the world's best grapplers with an unbelievable fight record. Thanks to Adam Metcalf for putting on the seminar, it was a great day and we will definately come and see Robert again the next time he is in Perth.
Wow, 2010 has exploded! This is fantastic news for the Club, however we will be making a change to our timetable. It is important that our kids advanced traditional classes still get time to talk to their coaches and the coaches get time to give feedback to parents. For this reason Box and Burn and Kick boxing will be starting 15 minutes later, we will let you know when the time change is taking place.
Box and Burn had over 30 people in the class tonight making this one of the most successful and exciting program I have ever been involved with! Get down here!
Joondalup Martial Arts would like to send out a big thank you to Adam Metcalf from the Academy of Mixed Martial Arts in Mirrabooka. The December BJJ seminar was fantastic and a great time was had by all. View the photos in our online photo gallery
It was great to see Adam in action. In my opinion the Academy of Mixed Martial Arts is one of the best training centres around. Well done AMMA!
We are looking forward to the next seminar in February!
Thank you to Rob Popiel for your editing expertise on our showreel. You have true talent and a unique passion for the martial arts. Keep training, keep filming and we wish you every success in 2010.
