Joondalup Martial Arts Little Tiger’s Program is dedicated to teaching our young students the importance of Discipline and focus in a fun and safe environment. Our goal is to develop and bond with your child and be a role model so we can help reinforce the values being taught in the home and at school.
Along with promoting good behaviour the program also focuses on “Stranger Awareness”.At JMA we do not believe that all strangers are dangerous but we do believe in displaying caution. We encourage good communication in the home to determine who mum and dad say it’s ok to talk to. i.e. is the postman a stranger? Is the neighbour a stranger? It is different for every house hold and should be discussed.
Bullying is also part of the syllabus. When dealing with bullies we focus our attention on being assertive and voice projection not on punching or kicking. We also encourage talking to mum and dad about the problem and informing the teachers. Bullying can be very demoralising for a young child and can make them feel isolated. It is our job to shed light on the issue and show the children that it is quite common and they can talk about it.
A big part of our physical well being is nutrition. At JMA we preach healthy food choices and strive to educate our kids on the importance of fruits and vegetables making up a large part of their daily intake. We have a strong background in nutrition and want all our students to benefit from a healthy diet.
One of our most important messages for our kids is about family. There is nothing more important than family and we make sure that our students understand that is just as important for them to look after their family as it is for their family to look after them. This is our single most important message because we believe that having a strong family bond keeps kids on the right path and keeps parents connected.
These four focus points are the core of what we teach, all the while keeping true to the physical aspects of their training. Our goal is to help develop a healthy mind and body, keeping them smiling at the same time.
Little Tigers Grading System Our Little Tigers program works on a coloured tag reward system to keep our little ones focused. Each month our kids have a different focus and four coloured tags represent the successful completion of each task. Yellow Tag - This tag is achieved by demonstrating good behaviour, manners, listening skills, focus and following all our Club rules. We work with you the parents to make sure your child is behaving not only at the gym but at home and school as well. Green Tag - This tag is achieved by demonstrating the required self defence techniques for their level. At JMA self defence is not just about learning to kick or punch, we focus on voice projection and the importance of communicating with parents and teachers to keep our kids safe. Blue Tag - This tag is achieved by demonstrating an understanding of the boxing combinations for each level. Our kids must focus on power and accuracy with each combination to prove their competency. Red Tag - This tag is achieved by demonstrating the specific kicking technique for each level e.g. white belt = front kick, yellow belt = instep kick. There are many different kicks in our discipline and our Tigers must learn good balance and accuracy as well as co-ordination to achieve this tag. Yellow and Green Striped Tag - This tag focuses on our little tigers healthy food choices. This is something we discuss in class, and parents are able to give this tag out to their child when they feel they are deserving of it.
Every belt level requires all five tags (as well as the additional black 'Grading tag') to promote to the next belt colour. Our coloured tag reward system is the perfect way to keep our kids focused on their goals and keep the parents informed of their progress. A new belt is received at every grading.
